About Simply Woodcrafts

Since 1990 we have been building our quality meditation stools and meditation chairs in the Blue Mountains of Australia and providing you with a supportive, comfortable and practical aid to make your meditation most beneficial. We make Meditation Stools for different body types.
 
Simply Woodcrafts Building Quality Meditation Stools for over 25 years.

Back in 1989 I was preparing myself for a 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat. At the time I had great difficulty sitting cross-legged and experienced discomfort in my lower back and legs. I made myself a basic Meditation Stool from 3 pieces of timber. That first stool enabled me to sit comfortably in an upright posture. I successfully completed my meditation retreat and continue to benefit greatly from the practice.

Motivated by my own positive experience and using the stool as a prototype I was inspired to make my Meditation Stools available to a wider group of people. I am a Swiss trained tradesman accustomed to use trusted and proven methods which will deliver lasting results.

I have personally manufactured some of the equipment that I needed to produce the detailed joinery essential for quality Meditation Stools. My aim is to create a meditation stool that is both user and environment friendly.
 
About The Raw Materials We Use
We build our stools using selected timbers, from plantations or Australian managed regrowth forest areas. We aim using Australian and New Zealand plantation Radiata pine and Victorian ash. At the moment any new Radiata pine timber and Plywood is mostly from New Zealand. The finished product is protected and Hand finished with natural paint products.

By carefully selecting the grain of the timber and incorporating quality joinery, hardware and finishes, our product is purpose built and with proper care can be a long-lasting piece of furniture.

Packaging
We try to use Recycled packing materials as far as practical possible.

About Our Stools
As different people are different sizes, I needed to know how to determine the heights of Meditation Stools that I was going to build. I used my own body as a guide; I am 180 cm tall and of slim build. Without using a stool I can normally sit on my ankles in a kneeling position for about 10 minutes quite comfortably. I built a stool that would support my weight just slightly above my lower legs. This was the first stool that I made for myself. This Extra Low Meditation Stool was also the stool with the least height I could possibly build so that my legs would just fit under it. This stool became my personal meditation stool for years to come.

Excited by my new stool, I showed it to my friends, but to my surprise only a few of them could sit on it. It was too low for most of them. Only those who practiced yoga or similar exercises or who were accustomed to sitting in this posture (in Japan it is called Seiza), could sit comfortably on it. With this feedback, I investigated further to find a height that would suit most users. As well as increasing the height of the stool, I set the slope of the seat at a slightly steeper angle.

This became the Standard Meditation Stool. It has proved to be compatible with the most users. Given the choice, 3 out of 4 slim built people, who had a natural inclination to sit in a partial kneeling position, and who ranged in body height between 165cm and 185cm seemed to be quite happy with this stool.

Refining the product further, I found that some people could sit slightly lower, and an intermediate height, the Low Meditation Stool was created. Some clients expressed their desire for more leg space than the standard height, and also people with a body height of 190 cm or more would frequently ask for a taller stool. For that requirement the
High Meditation Stool was built.

I sold the first set of Standard Meditation Stools in Autumn 1990 to a local bookstore in Katoomba, Blue Mountains.
Since then, demand has grown and the range of Stools has expanded and now includes the very popular
Folding Meditation Stools.

We are always looking for ways to meet your needs. Constant refinement and innovations are our driving force. Our latest product is a Meditation Chair that gives lower back support for people who like to sit cross-legged.

Order of goods
A binding contract exists only on acceptance of an order.

Your sale contract with Simply Woodcrafts commences when we receive your payments. We reserve the right to reject an order if we have reasonable grounds
to believe not to accept the order, in which case we would inform you of our decision by email and or by telephone and refund any money paid as soon as possible.

A order that has been place by you, you agree to the purchase price on our website plus shipping fees if applicable,

Availability of goods
All orders are subject to availability.

Delivery

Returns and Exchanges
If the Meditation Stool does not suit you,
it can be returned or exchanged, in as new condition, within 10 days of purchase.
Buyer pays shipping costs plus a restocking fee of $10.00.

Cushion Set Care
If stool is supplied with a cushion set:
The cushion and cover can be removed from the stool for cleaning.
Pull the cushion out from under the cover.
The cover will then easily slide off the stool.
Hand wash the cover with mild detergent in lukewarm water
The futon cushion can not be washed,
but needs to be aired regularly.
